Cellphone texting can be fun and textmates can be friendly, but just like anything else in this world, evil lurks and texting can be dangerous.

In Pasay City, a teenage girl has filed a complaint against an older nman whom she met via cellphone texting, and later had sex with in a motel during their “eyeball” in December 2006.

The 17-year-old girl (who is below the legal age of 18 in Philippine laws) went to the police because she was three-months pregnant, and her textmate Joel Escriba, 27, of Area 64 Sto Niño, Sapang Palay, San Jose Del Monte Bulacan, refused to talk to her, claiming he was already married.

According to police records at the Women and Children’s Concerned Desk (WCCD) of the Pasay police, Escriba and the victim became textmates in 2006 and exchanged intimate text messages until they agreed to meet in December 16, 2006.

The victim told police she had fallen in love with Escriba over the months they were textmates, and she was not able to resist when he took her to Rotonda Lodge on Edsa, Pasay City on their first meeting. Their, they had what in street lingo is called a “sex eyeball” (SEB).

She said Escriba even brought him to Bulacan province and introduced her to his parents. He even allegedly promised to his parents that he will marry her.

But Escriba allegedly started avoiding her when he learned she was pregnant. On her third month of pregnancy, she was finally able to talk to Escriba on his cellphone, but he refused to help her with her pregnancy as she was a married man.
